December hits and suddenly life gets…full.
Work parties, social catch-ups, late nights, Christmas shopping, school events ... and don't even talk about Elf on the Shelf. It’s easy to feel like fitness has to take a back seat, or worse, like all your progress is about to unravel.
But here’s the truth:you don’t lose progress just because life gets busy.
You lose progress when you decide that being busy means nothing counts.
And we’re not doing that this year!
More events? Fine.
Less structure? Normal.
More tempting foods around? Of course.
Feeling like you have “less time”? We all do.
But December isn’t a write-off. You can enjoy the seasonandstay on track.
It just requires one mindset shift:

Control what you can control, not what you can’t.
You don’t need perfection.
You don’t need to hit personal bests.
You don’t need to be in the gym six days a week.
Focus on the small, achievable wins that keep momentum going:

Prioritise movement when you can
Even a 20–30 minute session counts.
A walk, a quick workout, a lighter gym day, it all adds up.

Keep protein on your plate
More parties and dinners out? Enjoy them!
But focus on adding protein to each meal to keep energy stable and support satiety.

Hydrate (and no, we don't mean copious amounts of alcohol)
Between the few extra festive drinks, hydration can drop off fast.
Alcohol dehydrates you more than you think, which is why staying on top of your water intake makes a huge difference to your energy, recovery, food choices and how you feel the next day.
A simple rule for December if you choose to drink: match every alcoholic drink with a glass of water.

Stick to your “non-negotiables”
What’s one or two things you canalwayskeep in place?
Sleep before midnight? A morning walk? Three gym sessions a week?
Choose what’s realistic and commit to that.

Give yourself grace... but not excuses!
You’re human. Life happens.
But an off day doesn’t turn into an off month unless you let it. December, and any progress, only gets thrown in the bin if you choose it to be!
Your fitness journey doesn’t pause in December, it simply adapts.
You’ve worked incredibly hard all year.
You’ve built habits, strength and routine.
That doesn’t disappear because life gets festive.
Show up when you can.
Do your best with what you have.
Enjoy the season without the guilt.
You’ve got this!
